TV

America’s Next Top Model
Last month the girls were photographed as high school clichés at the prom, given the traditional ANTM makeover and shot wearing candy as clothing, posed as crime scene victims, and shot portraying the opposite sex. Samantha, Cassandra, Felicia, and Diana were cut, respectively.

This month kicks off with the girls creating their own nicknames and matching characters; they will get to flaunt their new personas at a Hollywood party where attendees include Cycle 7 runner-up Melrose and rapper 50 Cent.

Shear Genius
Bravo TV’s new show will debut on Wednesday, April 11, where a dozen competitors will vie to be named top hairstylist. Judges will be host Jaclyn Smith, former Charlie’s Angels actress and clothing and home furnishing designer; Michael Carl, fashion director at Allure magazine; René Fris, hairstylist and model; and Sally Hershberger, celebrity hairstylist.

Books

Karen Yampolsky’s Falling Out of Fashion, a chick-lit offering in the vein of The Devil Wears Prada, looks at fashion publishing through the eyes of Jill, a magazine founder who struggles to preserve her publication’s integrity after its acquisition by a major media company.

The Fashion Reader explores how fashion has been affected by history, business, politics, and popular media. Authors Abby Lillethun and Linda Welters are professors in the University of Rhode Island’s Fashion Merchandising and Design department.

Shopping as an Entertainment Experience examines the phenomenon of shopping—in malls, in stores, and online—as an increasingly popular leisure activity. Author Mark H. Moss is Chair of General Arts and Science at Seneca College.

Designer Cynthia Rowley has published Slim: A Fantasy Memoir, a memoir/fiction hybrid filled with her illustrations. Rowley has previously had publishing success with her Swell guide book series.
