Bravo’s Shear Genius: The Scoop

Bravo TV’s new reality series, Shear Genius, debuted last month and introduced viewers to the dozen competitors vying to be named top hairstylist. The winner will receive an apprenticeship with Nexxus Salon lead stylist Roy Teeluck, the opportunity to style for an Allure magazine shoot, and $100,000.

The format of the series is similar to other competition shows—the contestants move into a house together, complete challenges, and are sent home one by one until the winner is left standing.

Each episode contains a shortcut challenge and an elimination challenge: In the shortcut challenge, each stylist is ranked; the one at the top enjoys an advantage in the elimination challenge.

When making the first dismissal, host and judge Jaclyn Smith said the elimination phrase that would send the loser home at the end of each episode: “This was your final cut.”

Smith, former Charlie’s Angels actress and clothing and home furnishing designer, is joined by fellow judges Michael Carl, fashion director at Allure magazine; René Fris, hairstylist and model; and Sally Hershberger, celebrity hairstylist.

The show airs on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on Bravo.
