Costume Institute Celebrates Paul Poiret
The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art presents Poiret: King of Fashion, an exhibit that focuses on early 20th-Century designer Paul Poiret, the self-anointed “King of Fashion.” The event will remain open through Sunday, August 5.
Poiret cast aside the traditional corset, broke ground by creating pantaloons for women, and translated his inability to sew into a revolutionary dressmaking technique that emphasized drapery over tailoring.
